James R. Cole,78 years old of Antioch, IL passed away Wednesday, April 29, 2020.

James joined the Navy in early 1960.
He reported aboard the USS Princeton LPH-5 later that year along with 6 or 8 others. (Ron Bishop, Hausler and not sure who else.) He was part of Operation Dominic (atomic bomb testing) at Johnston Island in 1962/1963.
He was discharged in 1964 and returned to Antioch. He decided to reenlist later that year and was on the USS Bennington CV-20, another carrier similar to the Princeton. He was discharged in late 1968, receiving credit for 8 years.
He stayed in California working for Shell Oil/Chemical until his return to Antioch in 1976, where he remained the rest of his life. He always said he moved enough times between 1950 and his return to Antioch that he wasn’t going to move again.
